It Came From Shudder: December Edition

Because it’s the end of the year, I always worry about finding new entertainment. Most streamers are pushing out Hallmark movies where women trade fulfilling careers for lumberjacks in their hometowns. It is such a dreadful season for weird couch potatoes like myself. That is unless you have a Shudder subscription. Our favorite streamer is also getting into the holiday spirit. However, they understand the assignment and are giving us the gift of holiday horror cinema. While that’s not normally my jam, the app has found a way to make it dark, brutal, and worth my time. Here are the five Christmas-infused horror titles hitting Shudder this December that I can’t wait to watch!

The Best Movies to Stream on Shudder in December

It’s A Wonderful Knife (2023)

A teen wishes she’d never been born and wakes up in a parallel universe in this It’s A Wonderful Life-inspired slasher. We have seen a ton of slashers this year, but very few are this fun. It’s A Wonderful Knife is a delightfully bloody, fun, and cool end-of-year surprise. It’s also upsetting Fox News, so I think it’s time to unleash some merch already. I cannot wait for more people to be able to see this movie so I can stop dancing around spoilers in the group chats already.

You can watch It’s A Wonderful Knife on December 1st. Read our spoiler free review here.

P2

A businesswoman finds herself trapped in a parking garage being stalked by a psychopath on Christmas Eve. I only discovered this movie recently when friends told me I should watch it. Which is why it’s funny and scary that Shudder is getting it not even a week later. If they’re reading our group chats, I hope they also saw the one about getting #ChadGetsTheAxe.

To All A Good Night (1980)

The party is ruined when a maniac wearing a Santa costume starts killing teens. I’m not the biggest holiday horror girl, but I love a good slasher. More importantly, I have been secretly watching all of the 80s slashers I get my hands on this year. So, I am grateful that Shudder is letting me cross this one off my list while sipping a boozy holiday beverage this weekend.

You can watch To All A Goodnight on December 1st.

I Trapped the Devil (2019)

A paranoid man believes he’s trapped the devil in his basement and must deal with that as his family unexpectedly shows up for Christmas. This title and description already had me intrigued. Then I discovered it was an IFC Midnight movie that somehow got by me. IFC is here for the weird and chaotic. They were A24 before A24 existed. So, I already know this family getting together with Satan downstairs is going to be a moment. I cannot wait to hit play on this one!

You can watch I Trapped The Devil on December 1st.

The Sacrifice Game (2023)

Two students stuck at boarding school for Christmas try to outwit the murderous cult outside their door. Nothing says Christmas like cults! I have been trying to see this movie for so many months that I was starting to think it wouldn’t happen this year. Shout out to Shudder for coming through for me once again!

You can watch The Sacrifice Game on December 8th. You can read our spoiler free review here!
