The Horror Press Podcast Episode 59: Shudder & Sequels

Published

on

In Episode 59 of The Horror Press Podcast, James-Michael, Brendan and Eli (Bad Critic) talk about what they’ve been watching, what they are working on, and horror movie news.

Leave a comment on Apple or Spotify, and Brendan has promised to get a special tattoo.

What We’ve Been Up To

Eli waxes poetic about The Descent and the 2007 Lindsay Lohan vehicle I Know Who Killed Me, Brendan revisits the “See Paris die” marketing campaign for 2005’s House of Wax, and everyone discusses whether reality TV is modern vaudeville! James-Michael keeps to the ‘millennial nasties’ theme and talks about 2003’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Brendan explains the book he’s currently enjoying (Dungeon Crawler Carl) and the video game he’s not really enjoying (Hades II). Brendan is also on his first watch of The Sopranos, and everyone gets sidetracked talking about how great the writing is and also how New Jersey it is!

Horror News: May Horror Releases, Sequels, and Prequels

May is a massive month for horror, we have Hokum (from Damien McCarthy, who made Caveat and Oddity), Obsession (from Curry Baker, who made Milk & Serial), Passenger (from André Øvredal, who made Troll Hunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe), and Backrooms (from first time filmmaker Kane Parsons), plus Tales from the Crypt!

Shudder is raising its prices to $100 for a year-long subscription, which is still competitive, but they are not offering more for their services. James Gunn’s creature horror Slither (2006) is getting a rerelease (fun!), Gladys from Weapons is getting a prequel (why?!), Longlegs is getting a sequel (no!), and Terrified is getting an American remake (stop!).

The First Ever Interactive Feature Release?

Slay Day, the first ever interactive feature to release in theaters, is expected out in February. The Blumhouse film La Llorona is getting a sequel (ugh) even though there is a perfectly good Guatemalan film of the same name! A new Final Destination movie is in the works for 2028, somehow this gets everyone sidetracked into talking about all the times Alexander Skarsgård has done simulated (?) full frontal. American Horror Story is back with a Coven sequel for season 13, a new Child’s Play movie resetting the timeline is in the works, and apparently, there’s more Insidious films coming (we’re over it!)

The Horror Press Podcast Episode 60: Joe Bob & Aughts

Published

on

In Episode 60 of The Horror Press Podcast, James-Michael and Brendan talk about what they’ve been watching, what they are working on, and horror movie news.

What We’ve Been Up To

Eli is absent from the episode but she ran a cursed poll on the podcast instagram account asking listeners if they’d rather be the middle or the end of the human centipede, so Brendan and James-Michael discuss the results in horrifying details! James-Michael is watching Tales from the Crypt and Brendan has watched Sorority Row 10 times recently for a mysterious reason!

Brendan got his hands on a copy of the Spanish sci-fi film The Antares Paradox, as well as a box set of the Filipino Blood Island films! Also, everyone is scared of the Hantavirus!

Horror News: Hocus Pocus 3, and Trailers

Hocus Pocus 3 is in the works, and will star Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler again. It’s the 21st anniversary of House of Wax, Brendan’s favorite! The Faces of Death remake is already on VOD, and will be on Shudder soon. Ready or Not 2 is also available on VOD, and will be getting a physical release in June.

Netflix is depriving us all from more seasons of Skinwalker Ranch (only season 4 is available). Evil Dead Burn dropped both a Red Band and Green Band trailer and the boys wonder whether the trailers are still giving away too much! Are we all just living in a Deadite hellscape?

Brendan then SLANDERS ELI BY SAYING SHE LOVES AND ENDORSES SPIDER MOVIES. A teaser trailer has dropped for Poultrygiest 2: Dawn of the Chicken Dead, someone made a SAW pop-up book, and Resident Evil fans are mad at the new trailer!

Brendan and James-Michael wonder what fans actually want, and Joe Bob Briggs fans catch a stray. Blair Witch is being rebooted (no one knows how to feel about it) and a massive re-release of Adam Green’s Hatchet and all kinds of supplementary material is coming your way (it’s expensive).

The Horror Press Podcast Episode 58: Furries & Buffy

Published

on

In Episode 58 of The Horror Press Podcast, James-Michael, Brendan and Eli (Bad Critic) talk about what they’ve been watching, what they are working on, and horror movie news.

Leave a comment on Apple or Spotify, and Brendan has promised to get a special tattoo.

What We’ve Been Up To

James-Michael had a traumatic vacation flight, Eli is stuck in the frozen tundra of Montreal, and Brendan has been very busy at his real job, but Brendan really wants to know what furries call themselves if their animal persona is a reptile (we learned after recording that it’s scalies!).

What We’ve Been Watching

Eli recently re-watched Taxi Driver (1976) and The Wailing (2016). James-Michael binged 1000-Lb. Sisters, Neighbors, and more. Brendan has been playing Neon Abyss, and watched Body Cam and V/H/S Halloween. Brendan recaps his Unnamed Footage Festival watches, including the latest American Guinea Pig film (Slaughter of the Swine) and Frogman Returns (guess which one he liked)!

Horror News: Halloween Horror Nights, Interview With the Vampire & More

Together they discuss the news! James-Michael is excited for the 35th year of Halloween Horror Nights, which includes the return of Jack the Clown and Dr Odd Fellow. Eli is annoyed at how A24 rolled out The Undertone and other underground films to the mainstream. Season 3 of Interview With The Vampire is back, aka The Vampire Lestat is coming out in June, as is Scary Movie 6!

RIP Nicholas Brendon & The Buffy Reboot Cancellation

James-Michael and Eli mourn the cancellation of The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, as well as the early passing of actor Nicholas Brendon (aka Xander).

The Last Drive-In Cancelled at Shudder & Joe Bob Briggs Lore

Brendan dissects the cancellation of The Last Drive-In at Shudder, and explains Joe Bob Briggs lore. He also informs us of the ongoing Bigfoot flap in Ohio!

New Releases & Trailers: Faces of Death, The Mortuary Assistant & More

Send Help is getting an alternate ending on digital, The Faces of Death (April 10th) trailer is maybe good (??), and The Mortuary Assistant is now out on Shudder.

Horror at the Oscars & Jennifer’s Body Sequel Confirmed

The Oscars had the most horror representation & wins this year of all time (Sinners, Frankenstein, Weapons). Happy 20th anniversary to Stay Alive and Diablo Cody confirms that she’s writing a sequel to Jennifer’s Body!
