Hello Again, Sidney. ‘Scream’ Sequel Greenlit at Paramount and Spyglass

Grab your medium popcorn, no butter, and a small diet Pepsi because the next installment in the Scream franchise is in the works! Following the tremendous box office success of their 2022 “requel”, the creative team at Radio Silence will return in full capacity with production slated to begin sometime this summer. Returning to direct are Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, along with James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick penning the script and franchise veteran Kevin Williamson executive producing. No casting announcements have been made, but after Ghostface’s latest killing spree through a cast of both returning OGs and fresh meat, it’s anyone’s guess who will return.

Thanks to some outstanding marketing and word of mouth, Scream 2022 has proven itself a box office smash, dethroning Spider-Man in its first weekend and holding the #2 spot since. It has earned over $62 million domestic and $106 million worldwide, vastly outpacing 2011’s Scream 4. Horror is having somewhat of a resurgence as of late, and Scream’s meta slasher whodunit is exactly what gets audiences talking. This sequel, however, is on a similar timeline to 1997’s Scream 2, which suffered a rushed and messy production after the original’s breakout success. Let’s keep our fingers and knives crossed that our imminent return to Woodsboro is a scream, baby!
