It Came From Shudder: Halloween 2023 Edition

It’s not Halloween season until you have your face melted off by the Shudder press release telling you every creepy title they have acquired for October. As usual, the streamer is spoiling us rotten during the best time of year. There are a couple premieres each week if you count the specials, exclusive shows, etc. They’re even making the most important holiday extra special by dropping the first 7 Saw movies and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula Season 5 Premiere on Tuesday, October 31. Needless to say, this might’ve been the hardest month to pick just 5 titles yet. However, I have consulted all my charts, searched my soul, and am back with my top picks for the month anyway.

The Best Movies to Stream on Shudder in October

Dead End (2003)

A traditional Christmas Eve road trip to the in-laws is anything but ordinary after a family tries to take a shortcut for the first time in 20 years. I’m not the biggest fan of holiday horror, and I am one of the people constantly yelling that we need to stop letting other holidays disrupt Halloween’s moment. However, this movie is so good, and I plan to rewatch it while making my friends watch too. More importantly, Lin Shaye is in this movie, so you know it’s a necessary addition to whatever your plans are this month.

You can watch Dead End starting October 1

Creepshow Season 4 Binge Premiere

The Shudder original anthology series based on the Stephen King film is back! Shoutout to whoever decided to drop all 6 episodes on Friday the 13th. I can’t think of a more appropriate way to celebrate that bonus holiday than with hours of new creepy TV ingested directly into the eyeballs. I promised myself I would binge the show so that I could tune in this year because it has been on my list forever.

You can watch Creepshow starting October 13.

Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (2023)

A group travels to the Carmichael Manor to investigate the site of some unsolved murders. I’ve come too far in this franchise to chicken out now, and I will be hitting play the second this movie drops. Because Shudder knows we have the attention spans of toddlers, they’re giving us the rest of the franchise on October 2. That way, we can binge everything before the premiere of the newest title.

You can watch Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor starting October 30.

The Puppetman (2023)

The daughter of a death row inmate starts to believe her dad’s wild tale about evil forces making him commit murder when her friends start dying in gruesome ways. This movie sounds like my cup of tea, and I’m rooting for it. They had me at dysfunctional family and possessions that end with murder. I think that’s a beautiful intersection to be at for a wild time, and I would like to see it.

You can watch The Puppetman starting October 13.

When Evil Lurks (2023)

Two brothers find a possessed man about to give birth to evil. That sentence is enough of a reason to tune all the way in on whatever this movie is doing. However, to sweeten the pot, it’s directed by Demián Rugna (Terrified). I love possession movies and want to see this dude give birth. So I guess that means I’m rooting for evil this time around, and I’m fine with that.
