It Came From Streaming: June 2023 Edition

I don’t know about you, but streaming spaces are getting more and more crowded, and with it, more places to get your horror movie fix. It’s easy to overlook new releases or underrated gems. But never fear, HORROR PRESS has your back! This isn’t meant to be an exhaustive list, but a nice little reference guide for all the best scary movies in June. Now, onto the selections!

Scary Movies To Stream This Month

Hulu

Hulu has quietly gone under the radar as your resident purveyor of fine horror, but after HellraiserFresh, and Prey, it’s hard not to take them seriously.

Barbarian (2022)

If you haven’t seen Barbarian yet, and it hasn’t been spoiled for you, there’s zero excuse not to see it now that it’s on Hulu. Justin Long, Bill Skarsgard, and Georgina Campbell will have you squirming in your seat, wondering how much weirder this story can get, only to realize, yes, it does get weirder.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil (2010)

I slept on this movie for many years, mainly because horror comedy is usually not my thing. But after Tiffany convinced me to give it a watch, I’m glad she did. Not only is this movie funny, but it’s also smart.

The Twilight Saga

I love to hate on Twilight, but deep down, this trash franchise is a sleeper.

Max

Army of Darkness (1992)

For many Evil Dead fans, this is the worst installment, and it kind of is. But it’s also fun and really leans into the goofy side the franchise is known for. Don’t go into this movie expecting Evil Dead (2013) levels of dread, but maybe a silly medieval romp that wrecks the timelines of continuity that has fans arguing over what is or isn’t canon.

You’re Next (2011)

Watch a survivalist kick ass in a home invasion gone wrong. Oh, and horror l e g e n d Barbara Crampton is in it.

Screambox

The Collector (2009)

A thief breaks into a wealthy family’s home only to find they are being murdered. Does he help them or get what he came for? In my opinion, The Collector movies are superior in every way to the Saw franchise, but lacked the marketing needed to truly take off.

Subspecies

Do you love camp? Do you love vampires? Do you love Full Moon movies? The entire series is on Screambox, and if you haven’t seen them, you absolutely need to, especially now that the newest installment just got released. Radu loves you, but he loves his bloody Ring Pop more.

Peacock

Jurassic Park

A select few Jurassic Park movies are out on Peacock. Don’t look at me like that. Yes, Jurassic Park is horror.

The Purge/The Purge: Election Year

There’s something about The Purge that really freaks me out. It could be because we’re inching closer to it becoming a reality. Whenever they announce a new one, I roll my eyes, but when I’m in my seat in the theater and hear those sirens going off, I’m fully invested.

Crackle

Willys Wonderland (2021)

Nicholas Cage versus a bunch of satanic Chuck E. Cheese animatronics. Need I say more?

Lake Placid 2 (2007)

The CGI has not aged well, and yes, it lacks Betty White, but it does have this early 2000s SciFi channel charm that you warm up to.

Q: The Winged Serpent (1982)

My first experience watching this movie was on The Last Drive-In, and while I may be a sucker for monster movies, this movie feels special. Between David Carradine and the 1950s campy sci-fi feel, it’s worth a watch!

Freevee

American Psycho (2000)

If someone tells me American Psycho is their favorite book, it’s a red flag. If someone tells me American Psycho is their favorite movie, I know they are a distinguished person of culture. Now go return those tapes!

Netflix

Black Mirror

Fans of the anthology series will be happy to hear the show will return for its 6th season on June 15th
