It Came From Streaming: April Showers Bring Horror Bingeing for Hours

Welcome to the first edition of “It Came from Streaming,” brought to you by your friends at Horror Press. Previously, we would take turns concocting an “It Came from Shudder” article, released on the first Friday of every month, to share our horror movie recommendations on Shudder for the month. However, we recognize there are so many streaming services and so much horror spread out amongst them. Therefore, our first Friday horror recommendations are becoming more inclusive. May we present: It Came from Streaming. A collection of horror films or tv shows that the writers at Horror Press have curated to give you horror recommendations for the month.

This dark and stormy weather always puts me in the best mood. Although the cold, dreary, rainy days of April pale in comparison to a good summer storm, I digress. As we’re cooped up in the house, dealing with colds, allergies, and all the people coming outside now that it’s getting warmer, it’s the perfect time to binge some horror. Here are some horror movies and series to watch this month.

Yellowjackets Season 2

I cannot recommend this series enough. Season 2 premiered on March 24th, bringing us the return of Christina Ricci as Misty Quigley, the twisted, loveable citizen detective; the powerhouse Melanie Lynskey as Shawna; and the unreckonable force that is Juliette Lewis as Natalie. All of whom are the adult survivors of a plane crash that stranded them in the wilderness, putting them at odds with survival as teenagers. Flashes to the past have shown us that times are getting more twisted for the plane crash survivors as Lottie’s mystic beliefs are resulting in bizarre rituals, winter is setting in, and cannibalism has officially begun.

The Last Drive-In Season 5

Right on time for Walpurgisnacht, also known as the Pagan holiday Beltane – or, simply, the opportunity to celebrate a second Halloween – Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl, aka Diana Prince, are back with another season. Each episode of The Last Drive-In features back-to-back surprise horror movies, with intermissions from Joe Bob Briggs, where he regales us with his horror knowledge. Meanwhile, Darcy tries desperately to keep him on topic – typically to no avail. (Shout out to her ever-amazing cosplay outfits. She is forever #Goals.)

Something particularly extraordinary about The Last Drive-In is the ability to tweet with the hosts and other horror fans during the live episodes. Watching some drive-in-worthy entertainment with a world of mutants like me is a great time. Tweet along with the hashtag #TheLastDriveIn to join in!

The Last Drive-In premieres April 21st on Shudder, LIVE at 9 pm EST. I’ll see you there!

Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween

Speaking of Shudder premieres, don’t put all your Walpurgisnacht eggs into one basket. The Boulet Brothers are brewing a special Halfway to Halloween event, and given their track record, it promises to be out-of-this-world. If you’re eager for more details, we’ve got you covered.

Find the Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween special on Shudder Tuesday, April 25th.

The Blackwell Ghost (2017)

I will always recommend The Blackwell Ghost to anyone looking for a paranormal horror movie. It’s shot as a documentary, where filmmaker Turner Clay sets out to capture evidence of a haunting in a creepy house. If you like Paranormal Activity, you’ll love this. (And just like Paranormal Activity, the franchise has seven films.)

Watch The Blackwell Ghost free on Tubi, Plex, and Roku. It’s also available for Prime Video subscribers.

The Human Race (2014)

This one was recommended to us through one of our followers on TikTok, so I plan to check it out this month. About eighty people wake up in an unknown location and are informed that they will die if they do not race. I love a battle royale-style horror movie and look forward to it. If you have seen it or decide to check it out, feel free to reach out to us in the comments or on social media and let us know what you think!
