It Came From Shudder February Edition

Every month Shudder adds new horror to its ever-growing catalog. This month brings us some queer horror, plenty of indie movies, a coal mine killer, and more!

I’m sure you’ve heard of Skinamarink and maybe even already know it’s coming to Shudder this month. But it’s not the only thing the streaming service is adding to its platform. Like most streaming services, it can be hard to keep up with all their new content—so here’s a rundown of new content that I’d recommend watching this month on Shudder.

The Best Movies to Stream on Shudder This Month

Skinamarink

An indie horror movie that’s about two kids who can’t find their parents or any way out of their house. It feels like Paranormal Activity by way of the video from The Ring, if David Lynch directed it. These two poor children search their home for their missing parents while things like the doors, toilet, and windows disappear. It’s a movie with many still shots of walls, and lots of mumbling. It has some genuine jump scares and a few terrifying moments (“Look under the bed”). It’s experimental and creepy—and not entirely coherent. You need to buy what they’re selling, or this film won’t work for you. With that said, you’ll either love this movie or hate it. I still haven’t decided how I feel about this movie, and it’s been a month since I last saw it in theaters. But either way, this viral sensation is a must-see for all horror fans.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

The early ‘00s horror remakes often get a bad rap. They are often considered Not-As-Good versions of the originals. But sometimes, they’re incredibly fun and have great chase scenes. This horror remake stars Jaime King and Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles, and it’s incredibly fun. At times it takes itself a little too seriously, but it has one of the best chase scenes in a movie that also stars a naked woman running around a motel parking lot. The killer reveal, while one I saw coming, is also a fun take on the original. This is one of the better horror remakes from the “horror remake era.”

A perfect watch for Valentine’s Day that ends with a fun twist.

This movie by Danish director Gabriel Bier Gislason, follows an actress and her new girlfriend as they go to London to visit the new girlfriend’s creepy mother. The girlfriend suffers from seizures and seems mostly oblivious to her mother’s creep factor. Is the mother controlling everything? Probably, but let’s watch to find out! Watching this trailer, the movie feels like something in the vein of Skeleton Key or The Uninvited—but with a lesbian couple.

Nocebo

Penny Dreadful’s Eva Green stars as a fashion designer suffering from a mysterious illness. Her doctors can’t figure it out, and her husband is incredibly frustrated. The couple turns to a mysterious caretaker who uses…unusual healing techniques. The caretaker helps alleviate her pain but seems to be controlling her in other ways. There seems to be more to the mystery—is her new caretaker responsible or is it her husband or maybe someone else? Gaslighting abounds! This looks like another fun slow burn supernatural horror thriller. I’m a sucker for supernatural horror, but especially supernatural horror with a mystery twist so this looks like a fun watch. Plus, Eva Green!
