Whether it’s an ancient evil, an unearthed gem, a band with a historical career, or an old favorite about an old building, these streaming picks for July are a blast from the past.
All About Evil (2010)
A recent addition to Shudder’s catalog, All About Evil is an unpredictable, wonderfully weird slasher flick directed by the “queen of the midnight movie scene” Peaches Christ. This recently unearthed gem stars an unassertive Natasha Lyonne, who’s trying to carry on her father’s legacy in showbusiness. Witness her range as she transforms from the meek into a wicked goth queen. Speaking of goth royalty, Cassandra Peterson, best known for her role as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, also plays a part. Just be sure to silence your cell phones.
This is GWAR (2022)
GWAR serves as a crossover between two of my favorite things, heavy metal, and horror, so it goes without saying that I am thrilled about the premiere of this film. A documentary with more than thirty years of source material, This is GWAR details some key moments and behind-the-scenes looks at the famous shock rock band’s history. While it doesn’t release until July 21st, listening to some classic GWAR hits in the meantime is in order.
Moloch (2022)
July 21st is a busy date for Shudder as this is also the day that the new horror film based on an ancient evil is set to premiere. Named after the Pagan god of child sacrifice, coupled with a trailer that gave me shivers, Moloch promises to be unsettling, and I cannot wait to see it.
Hell House LLC (2015)
Rewatching beloved horror movies is like comfort food for my brain, and Hell House LLC is my go-to comfort food for July. When a group of friends acquires an abandoned hotel in the hopes of building it into a haunted attraction, this found-footage horror gives them more than they bargained for. When the film is over, and you’re left wanting more, this horror streaming service has you covered as Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel and Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire are both Shudder Exclusives.
Special Mention: The Alien Encounters Collection
It’s no secret, I love a good alien movie. Offering classic titles such as They Live, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Thing, along with Shudder Exclusives like Color Out of Space, and The Seed, this newly added category is already my favorite.
As always, all these movies can be found on Shudder, so make sure to check them out!
