Shudder is giving us a chance to catch our breath this August. They are adding fewer titles than they typically do. Which means this is probably the calm before the Halloween season storm. However, less doesn’t mean lower quality with our favorite streamer. We’re getting some international titles that look terrifying, a brand new slasher fresh from theaters, and a few underseen gems. So, if you’re looking for a reason to stay in this month, the app has you covered. Read the five titles I’m trying to get cozy with and see if they pique your interest too.
The Best Movies to Stream on Shudder This Month
La Abuela (2021)
A model returns to Madrid to care for her ailing grandmother, who is recovering from a stroke. However, her trip soon turns into a waking nightmare. I love familial baggage with my horror. I also know Spanish horror movies are usually worth my weight in gold. So, I’m looking forward to seeing how creepy this one gets. La Abuela (The Grandmother) looks like a good time, and I cannot wait to dig into this one.
You can watch La Abuela (Aka The Grandmother) on August 1st.
Venus (2022)
A woman on the run finds herself in a cursed apartment building on the outskirts of Madrid. Again, I will always make time to check out Spanish horror movies. However, I also love supernatural entities causing chaos. So, I’m excited Shudder is introducing me to this title, and I hope it’s as cool as it sounds. Ideally, it will scratch the itch left by Satan’s Slaves 2: Communion or Evil Dead Rise. However, beggars can’t be choosers.
You can watch Venus on August 1st.
All The Gods in the Sky (2018)
A man turns to supernatural solutions while caring for his sister on a remote farm in France. I have questions about these siblings and need to know what entities this man tried to contact. More importantly, the intersection of French horror and family drama sounds like a place I want to live. Which is why I am running toward this movie the second it drops on Shudder. As a professionally nosy person, I need to know what’s going on, and I need to know now.
You can watch All The Gods in the Sky on August 4th.
Clown in a Cornfield (2025)
A teen and her dad move to Kettle Springs for a fresh start. However, they soon discover that the small town has a deadly secret. Because I never read the books, I didn’t know what to expect from Clown in a Cornfield. However, it ended up being a pretty fun gateway slasher and made me add the books to my reading list. I am eager to relive it now that it is hitting Shudder. I also cannot wait to make all my friends watch it now that it is streaming.
You can watch Clown in a Cornfield on August 8th.
The Twin (2024)
A grieving couple struggle with their relationship after losing their son. As they seek help to save their marriage, the husband begins to lose his grip on reality. Horror is in its trauma with a capital T era, but I have high hopes for this one. I have no idea how this movie flew under my radar last year. However, I plan to fix that now that Shudder has brought it to my attention.
You can watch The Twin on August 29th.
I’m realizing Shudder is adding a lot of horror with family baggage this month. I am also realizing I am eating it up. I hope you’re also in the mood for some families battling evil (and in most cases, supernatural) forces. Clearly, I am and I have a lot to watch, so catch you all next month.
