As the temperature turns up across the country, our annual Spring cleaning at the Horror Press Estate has unearthed more than dusty demonic puzzle boxes and musty haunted clothes for the donation pile. We also rediscovered an old favorite article series we want to bring back: Horror Press Asks!
This month’s theme is all about things that creep, skitter, and crawl. So, it only seems fair to dredge up the worst of those memories YOU have of horror movie insects and ask, which horror movie bugs traumatized you the worst? It might be the sensation, their method of attack, or the crime many bugs are guilty of, just looking really gross. Regardless of what it is, we want to know which you think is the nastiest.
This of course isn’t limited to normal bugs, but also any insect-based monsters, so if you think of ones that aren’t on this list feel free to tell us about them in the survey. And no, the Human Centipede does not count; hardy har har, laughter abounds.
Our contenders this time around include…
1. Brundlefly (The Fly, 1986)
2. Giant Ticks (Ticks)
3. Giant Mosquitoes (Mosquito)
4. The Judas Breed (Mimic Series)
5. “The General” and His Spiders (Arachnophobia)
6. Giant Irradiated Ants (Them!)
7. The Cockroaches from “They’re Creeping Up on You!” (Creepshow)
8. The Giant Tarantula (Tarantula)
9. Killer Bees (The Swarm, 1978)
10. Graboids (Tremor Series)
11. Gray Widower Spiders (The Mist)
12. Possum (Possum)
13. The Carnictis Worms (King Kong, 2005)
14. And…Mothra (Godzilla Franchise)
Why Mothra? Because we recognize all of our fans with lepidopterophobia out there.
