Which horror-mom is the horror-mommie dearest?
Mothers. Some are so good, they transcend the barriers of blood ties and what it means to be a caregiver, nursing us in sickness and guiding us in health.
And some are so bad that, if modern horror cinema is to be believed, they produce the highest number of psycho-killers per capita.
When you break it down, statistically, we should be thanking more horror movie moms for the maternal wonders they work. At least, the good ones. That’s why, for this upcoming Mother’s Day (it’s May 8th in case you forgot, buy her something nice!), we at Horror Press are once more looking towards the fans to hear who you think is the BEST mother in horror movie history.
The rules for this one are much simpler than the previous ones:
#1: THEY MUST BE FROM A FILM OR TELEVISION SERIES
Much like our previous contest, this is just a limiter to keep me from having to sift through the infinite aisles of horror media we keep at the Horror Press Estate. If I could, I would add mothers like Ellie Whedon from Locke & Key, or The Governess from Turn of the Screw, but that would mean I’d be here until Mother’s Day of 2023 deciding.
#2: THEY MUST BE A MOTHER WHO IS (ARGUABLY) GOOD AT BEING A MOTHER
You’ll notice this does not exclude any killers or monsters that happen to be mothers, just the bad ones. What constitutes bad? Not fulfilling the motherly duties and foregoing the whole care and love deal intrinsic to the job. Remember, anyone can be a mother; it takes a special love to be a mom. So, before you decide to come with “what about the Queen Xenomorph?!”, she is a bad mother who regularly lets her children get turned into xeno-beef tartare by smart guns and Yautja disc-blades.
She should be keeping better watch of those little insectoid rugrats (bugrats?).
